About Me

I am extremely excited to have your child in class this year!  It is such a pleasure getting to teach them here at Symsonia Elementary School!

First, I would like to tell you a little about myself so you can get to know me a little better!  I began my educational career as a kindergartner right here at Symsonia Elementary and went to school here through the eighth grade.  It is so amazing that I get to teach here now.  I then attended high school at Reidland where I was very active on the athletic fields and in the classroom. I continued my education for two years on a softball scholarship at Southeastern Illinois College, receiving my Associates of Arts Degree. I then moved to Murray State University to continue with my Elementary Education pursuits.  I graduated in December of 2003 with a Bachelors of Science Degree.  I began my teaching at Wingo Elementary in 1st grade in the Fall of 2004.   I then came home to Symsonia and taught kindergarten for two amazing years followed by a year in 2nd grade. For the next three years, I worked as the physical education and on-demand writing teacher.  Now, I am in my eighth year back in kindergarten and am loving every minute of it.
I believe being a life-long learner is extremely important. So, I have continued my own education to be the best teacher for all of my students.  I completed my Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a School Safety Endorsement from Murray State in the summer of '08. Currently, I am pursuing a Specialist Degree in Elementary Education with an Instructional Computer Technology Endorsement.

At Symsonia, I have worked with STLP, captained our Relay for Life team, was a member of our SBDM Council, and the District Instructional Leadership Team.  I am also the school's Technology Resource Teacher. And for the third year, I am sponsoring a K-2 after-school MakerSpace.

In my free time, I enjoy playing sports (learned how to play golf this summer), traveling, sewing, crafts, archery, fishing, and camping.   I also love squirrels, cooking and eating, and spending time with family and friends.  I have been happily married for over 13 years.  My husband and I have two dogs, Foxy Brown and a Czech Shepard, One-Nine Kilo Vom Kavallerie or Kilo for short!
