Fun Week!

Today was awesome!  In our cooperative learning groups, we created habitat dioramas.  Each group did a little google image research and they were ready to create.  We had an ocean, desert, grassland, rain forest, and tundra!  The kiddos were able to explain their habitat, the animals needs, and the plants needs.  They also were able to explain how some of the plants and animals could change their environment.  They really did an excellent job!  I was so proud of them.

We also had our 1st Golden Horseshoe recipient.  Way to go Owen on always following RIDER Expectations and setting a great example for other students!

How could I forget?  We got to play on the brand new playground!!!!

Another great week in Kindergarten!

This week we were continuing to learn about 3D shapes.  We were also digging into science and learning about animals and plants.  We have been observing worms in their environment and how they change it.  We also planted bean seeds after reading Jack and the Beanstalk and Trust Me Jack Beanstalk!: The Story of Jack and the Beanstalk as Told by the Giant.  We compared and contrasted the two versions and discussed point of view.  Since we were learning about the needs of plants we
decided to plant 5 seeds and deprive some of them of at least one need to see what would happen.  The kiddos are really excited to see if that plant in the cabinet will grow!!!  Oh, and how could I forget, we had our first group of students meet their 1st AR goal of 5-100% accuracy tests!  They got to chew gum on Friday.  That is just a small snippet of the wonderfully fun things we were doing in Kindergarten this week.  Have a great weekend.

September is off to a ROCKIN' start!

We have begun our study on plants and animals.  Ask your kiddo about our worms!  We are also doing great work in our math interactive notebooks.  Please continue to practice sight words.  Also, please remember that when you put money in the agenda, you need to write what it is for.  I want to make sure I am sending it to the right place!

We need 3D recyclables!

Kindergarten is in need of shoeboxes, used containers, and items that are 3D.  We need things shaped like cubes, rectangular prisms, cones, cylinders, pyramids, and even spheres.  Some examples include:  used party hats, cereal boxes, soup cans etc.  We have a few pretty cool projects coming up, and we could use as many of these items as we can get! If they fit, you can just put them in your child’s backpack or even a plastic shopping bag.

Thanks so much for giving us your trash!

An unexpected 4 day week!

This week we really had a blast!  We learned about our five senses and their importance.  We got to smell some crazy smells, listen to animals and guess what we heard, and we even did an apple taste test!  It was a lot of fun.  This week we began to compare sets, and we really showed out!  We learned vocabulary like more, greater, less, and fewer.  It was a breeze!  Please continue to practice those sight words and see you on Tuesday!
