Polar Express

We had a great Polar Express Day!  We watch the movie, ate cookies, drank hot chocolate, and Santa and Mrs. Claus paid us a visit.  Mrs. Claus read us stories, we gave Santa our letters we had worked so hard on, we got our picture taken with them, and we even got a candy cane and a bell from them.  Plus, we got to do it all in our pajamas!!!  Pictures to come soon.

We have been so busy that I haven't been a very good blogger!  I am so sorry.  I have a ton of pics from our field trip, Native American Day,  our Navajo Unit, and Favorite Storybook Character Day.  I will post them as soon as I can.  Don't forget, we are still collecting canned goods until Friday.  Also, KINDERGARTEN will be having a Polar Express Day on Monday, December 17th.  We are wearing our pajamas!  YEAH!

Mrs. Janet was Mother Goose and I was Camilla Cream from A Bad Case of Stripes.  I love that book, and I love lima beans!!!

A Very Busy Week!

Beginning Monday, October 22nd, we will have Red Ribbon Week and Safe Schools Week. During this time we will learn about making good choices. Each day is a dress up day. You should have received a letter with this information last week. If you have any questions, give me or call or send me an email! Additionally, we will be going on our field trip, Thursday. The kids are beyond excited. I know they will have a blast at the Mayfield Fire Department and at The Pumpkin Barn. We will be leaving school around 8:30. And for the icing on the cake, Friday is our Fall Harvest Party at 2:00. Everyone is welcome to attend. Following school that night, we will have our annual Fall Festival. This is a great fundraiser for PTO and school. So please, come out, eat some chili, play some bingo, ride the mechanical bull, or even dunk your teacher in the dunking booth. ;) There are activities for everyone!!! On a different note, I have added a new video bar on my blog. These videos are great for learning letters, sounds, sight words, etc. Watch them together and have a great time! Don't forget: Monday nights-reading homework, Thursday nights-blending sheet homework, and practice "snappy words" each night. Taking a few minutes out of your day to show your child how important learning is, is truly important. I thank you for taking the time to work with your child on these skills. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me. Have a great week, and hopefully I will see you at the field trip, party, or Fall Festival! Thanks, Mrs. Dana

Fire Safety

Since this week are learning sbout fire safety, I wanted to share a few videos that the kids LOVE!  They ask me all the time to play them.  I even catch myself singing them at all hours of the day.  I would bet that I might even begin dreaming about them!  Our fire safety theme will give our students great background knowledge for our field trip that is coming up.  It will be a great real life connection for our kids!  They are so excited.  So without further ado, please enjoy the videos!

Coats for Kids

We will be collecting coats through October 19th for Coats for Kids!  If you have any coats that anyone in your family has outgrown or no longer wears, please bring it with your child to school.  The class with the most coats wins a pizza party!  So, bring in those coats!  :)

Go Big RED!

Friday we had our first Pep-Rally experience! We were a little confused since we wanted to call it a "Pepper Rally" and we really didn't have any idea what we were supposed to do there. Luckily, Mrs. Janet and I filled them in beforehand. We were raring to go! GO BIG RED!

Update!

It is so crazy how time flies here at school! I cannot believe we have already been here almost three whole weeks. We are finally getting into the swing of things, and we aren't looking back! This week we have been learning about the letter O and the /o/ sound. We even had octopus stew today at snack. In math, we are learning about the numbers 1 and 2, same and not the same, and also writing the numbers 1 and 2. We have realized that to know "how many" there are, we must COUNT them. Please visit our pictures to see some of the fun things we are doing here in Kindergarten. Reminder: please practice Snappy Words at home each night. Also every Monday night, please have your kiddo read their pre-decodable book to you. Don't forget to date and initial that you practiced. I know that with teamwork, we will have successful students here at school. Below I have provided a few videos that you can watch at home to help practice some of your Snappy Words. ENJOY!

Week 2

We made it!  We have completed one full week of Kindergarten!!!  We are still getting in the routine of things, but we are doing very well.  This week we are learning the letter L.  We have many fun activities planned and I know the kids will have a blast.  This week we will begin learning our "Snappy Words!"  These are the high-frequency words that students need to know by sight.  Each student will have a small box that contains their "Snappy Words" on flash cards.  These cards will be on a ring.  Each week, we will add new words.  Please practice these EVERY night, then place them back in your child's backpack.  Thanks so much.  I am really having a ball working with each and every child in my classroom!!!!

Back to School Night is fast approaching!  I am so excited to meet all the new Kindergarteners in my class.  At the same time, I am so sad to see all of my kiddos  move on to 1st grade.  There's no doubt, the 1st grade teachers will be SUPER impressed with how smart their new students are.

For all my new kiddos and their parents, I hope you visit my blog often.  I love sharing photos, learning links, and important information.  My blog is a great source of information about our classroom.

More importantly, I am so happy you are a Roughrider!  Symsonia Elementary is a great school!

Spring Has Sprung!

I can't believe it!  It is actually the first day of Spring!  The weather is nice and the flowers are blooming!  I must say, ALL of students have bloomed into some really smart kiddos!
Today we went on a nature walk.  The kids absolutely loved it!  Ask them about it, when they get home.  I am sure they will fill you in.
Please remember, there is no school Friday and our Easter Party will be March 30th.  Believe it or not, Spring Break will be right around the corner.  Have a great day and enjoy the weather!

100th Day

Wow!  We had the most awesome 100th day today!
First, we had a little old lady visit our class all day.  She must have been 100 years old, but she hung right in there with a class full of kindergarteners!
After reading the book The Wolf's Chicken Stew, we made chicks that ate 100 pancakes!  We didn't actually make 100 pancakes ourselves, but we did them by 10's!

We also wrote 100 words we found in our classroom, and we solved a 100's chart mystery!

Wait, there's more...
We made 100th  Day Hash.  We decorated our bags, and filled them with 10 pieces of 10 different snacks for a grand total of 100 pieces!  YUMMY!

To top it all off, we made necklaces with 100 beads and some really cool 100th Day hats!

To say we had a blast would be an understatement!

Exciting Week!

Well, we missed for our first snow day!  Unfortunately, it didn't lend itself to a lot of snowmen, snowball fights, or sledding!  I think our units on mittens and winter might have persuaded winter to give us a little snow.  Who knows?
So this week, we are focusing on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the 100th day of school!  Due to the snow day, this celebration of 100 days is now on Friday.  We will be using 100 to help us count, write, and read!  It will definitely be a fun day of learning!
Parents,
Keep working with your children!  Their Snappy Word recognition is out of this world, and I have a TON of fabulous readers!  This week we will also be completing a chapter test in math and will begin a new chapter on shapes!  I know they will ace the test!  Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at your earliest convenience!  I am here for you and your child!  So, have a great week, I know we will here at school!
