Run, run, as fast as you can...

We had a blast this week reading all the many variations of The Gingerbread Man.  We compared and contrasted them, went on a gingerbread man hunt with QR codes, and decorated gingerbread boy cookies.  Oh yeah, we ate them, too!!!!

Due to KPREP testing, our lunch time is 11:00-11:25 this week.  So, if you plan on joining your child, you need to come a little earlier than usual ;)
Also, Saturday is SlabTown Festival!!!  Please make plans to attend this community event.  What a great way to strengthen our awesome town!

Friday Fun!

On Friday, we were very lucky to have Mr. and Mrs. Violet volunteer to teach us how to make birdhouses.  We are so lucky to have grandparents like them at SES.  The kids REALLY had a ball and they learned so much.

Field Trip

We will be going to LBL for a field trip on Monday, May 4th.  Students can bring a lunch from home or grab a sack lunch from the cafeteria.  Parents that wish to join will need to provide their own transportation and the cost will be $5.00.   The $5.00 will cover your entrance to both the Planetarium and Nature Station, and can be paid upon entrance to both places.  We are really looking forward to a day of science!  If you have any questions, please contact me at school.

April

Reminders:  Easter Party tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.  Spring Break starts next week!  This 9 Weeks please continue to have your child practice their addition/subtraction facts to 5.  These must be know instantly!  Also, please make sure your child is reading his/her library book at home so they can continue to work toward their last AR Goal.  Additionally, allow your child to practice writing at home.  Encourage them to write sentences while using correct capitalization throughout, spacing, and punctuation.  A great way to do this is to get them a notebook or journal.  Thanks for all you do at home to make your child's school experience successful!

Snow Forever!

It seems like an eternity since I have seen my favorite kiddos!  I can't wait until we are all together again.  In the meantime, READ, READ, READ!  Also, hop on Moby Max and earn game time!  When we return we will be tackling subtraction and subtraction word problems.  We will be studying presidents, as well.  While you're here...take a look at Chase counting on to add.  I am so proud of all my kinders.  They are learning so much!

Mid Term & More

I know...this year is flying by!  Today was the mid-term of the 3rd 9 weeks.  Please continue to practice the standards for this nine weeks at home along with any previous standards not yet mastered.  Also, ask your child about, Jan Brett, the author and illustrator.  We completed an author study of her this week and the kiddos really loved it.  Her illustrations are very beautiful and her stories are great, as well.  We read a ton of her books, wrote whether we thought The Mitten was fiction or non-fiction, pretended we lost a mitten and wrote to describe it, so someone could find it, and Monday will will write about our favorite book of Jan Brett's and explain why.  We are really becoming more and more independent writers, and I am LOVING it!  I love to see them take more ownership and not be scared to sound out words on their own phonetically.  Have a great weekend and I will see 25 smiling, healthy faces on Monday!!!!
Pics of writing samples can be find on our Wonderful Writing page.

100th Day of School

Friday was our wonderful 100th day of school!  We celebrated with learning centers all about 100.  We made 100 hats, 100 towers, 100 piece trail mix, 100 topping pizzas, 100 bead necklaces, 100 year old pics, and 100th day prop pics.  It was a blast and I have to give a special shout out to all the volunteers!  WOW!  We couldn't have pulled it off without each and every one of you!  So, enjoy  some pictures from our day below.
